After creating a project and testing the link with your colleagues and friends, you can start collecting conversations from your audience.

If you HAVE your own audience

There are several ways to deliver the interview link to your audience:

Email. Sending an email to your client base is one of the most common methods.

Website Banner. If your website has enough traffic, create a banner. To encourage participation, consider adding a pop-up window.

Push Notifications. Send a push notification to the users of your app.

SMS. If you have a list of phone numbers, sending an SMS is another option.

Keep in mind that response rates may be low—typically around 1–2% or less, depending on factors such as your relationship with your audience and their level of motivation. In some cases, you may need a large pool of contacts to collect a sufficient number of interviews.

If you DON’T HAVE an audience

Social Media Posts. Create posts in relevant social media groups or pages where your target audience is active.

Ad Campaigns. Launch an ad campaign on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, or others. These platforms offer robust audience targeting options.

Ask Friends. If your audience is very niche, your friends might know someone who fits the criteria. Word-of-mouth recommendations can help expand your reach.

Incentives and motivation

There are two main types of motivation: material and non-material. Depending on your audience, you can use one or both types.

Non-material motivation

If you are interviewing your team members, they may be motivated by the potential to improve their working environment.

Appeal to curiosity and show genuine interest in people’s lives and opinions. People enjoy sharing their preferences about products, services, and ads they encounter. They feel valued when they believe they can influence decisions.

Explain how their input will make a difference. People want to see the bigger picture and feel that they are part of something important. What may seem routine to you could be a significant improvement for the end users.

Material motivation

Offer something valuable, such as a promo code, bonus points, or entry into a prize draw. Be creative — find an incentive that genuinely thanks your audience for their time and effort.

How many interviews are enough?

It depends.

All available people. If it’s feasible to reach your entire audience (e.g., all employees in a company or all members of a sports club), aim to collect as many interviews as possible. The more interviews, the richer the data.

100 interviews per target group. For broader audiences (e.g., consumers of Oreo cookies) one hundred interviews are generally sufficient. It’s been scientifically proven that this sample size is enough to capture a complete set of unique cases and begin to analyse them quantitatively.
